Privately Guided Safaris
Embark with me on a bespoke photographic tour where you can learn more about wildlife photography. Whether you are starting from scratch or simply looking to explore new horizons with a photographic guide who can help you to position, visualise, anticipate and capture the perfect shot, I can help.
Successful safaris are not only about understanding where to travel but also when and how. I have been fortunate enough to have travelled extensively in pursuit of my photographic passion. So if you are interested in travelling with me privately, get in touch to let me know what time of year you are thinking of travelling and what you would like to see, and I can tailor the safari to your needs and recommend the best locations so that you can have the safari you have always dreamed of, with the best camps and wildlife guides who know the animals intimately.
Scheduled Photographic Safaris
Every year I lead several scheduled photographic safaris and workshops to interesting destinations. These focus on small groups with specific targets in mind and are aimed at all levels of photographer.
Normally these groups are limited to 3 or 4 people in order to provide personalised tuition and maximise time with each guest. In some cases larger groups will travel, but in these scenarios I always have a second photographic guide to ensure everyone continues to receive personalised tuition and guiding.
Safaris generally comprise two activities (eg game drives or boat trips) per day with photographic tuition in between these activities, both one to one and with the group (depending on your needs) so that everyone has personalised time with me to work on the skills they want to improve.
Whether you are a beginner photographer, hobbyist or simply want to travel in a small, intimate group with personalised service offering location-specific insights and knowledge, these safaris are for you.
Countries & Regions to Explore
Kenya
The home of Safaris. A country that offers incredible concentrations and diversity of wildlife. From the vast, rolling plains of the Masai Mara, to watching incredible herds of elephants under the immortal gaze of Mount Kilimanjaro, to the plateaux of Laikipia, the dusty beauty of Samburu, and flamingo-carpeted lakes, Kenya has it all.
Tanzania
Year-round magic. Birthed by volcanoes millennia ago, Tanzania is rich in natural heritage. From the vast expanse of the world-famous Serengeti plains and the incredible Ngorongoro Crater to the anthropological importance of Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania is the heartbeat of Africa. The Cradle of Humankind.
Botswana
A bucket-list choice for many safari-goers. If you want to experience nature’s beauty in its finest, Botswana is the place. Move silently amongst the reeds in Mokoros and across the floodplains of the Okavango Delta. Drift along the mighty Chobe River in search of incredible birds and relaxing elephants. Experience the remote stillness of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans as lions’ roars cross vast distances and meerkats scurry around you. Or enjoy arguably the greatest concentrations of leopards in the Mashatu Game Reserve along the banks of the Limpopo River. Botswana is Africa’s paradise.
Zambia
Zambia is relatively low-key on the African safari stage. But there is no denying it deserves its place at the peak of wildlife viewing destinations. From cruising along the incredible Zambezi River and chasing the light in the incredible Winterthorn forests of Lower Zambezi National Park to the dramatic scenes and ebony groves of South Luangwa, Zambia still feels wild. Different. Indisputably African. And magical.
South Africa
As a country it is stunningly beautiful. As a wildlife destination it has everything. From the world-famous and leopard-rich Sabi Sands adjoining the Kruger National Park to the remote, vast, rolling dunes of the Kalahari Desert, South Africa is never ordinary. Easy to get to. Harder to forget.
Rwanda
Mystical and magical, The Land of a Thousand Hills is home to the incredible mountain gorillas. There is something in our collective psyche that draws us to gorillas. Something evocative about the mist, the primal jungle habitat they live in, the idea of climbing a mountain to spend one precious hour with one of our closest relatives.
