What to expect…

…Incredible food and world-class wine from local vineyards that date back 400 years surrounded by mountains and incredible vistas. The V&A Waterfront under the gaze of Table Mountain is a working harbour where cape fur seals enjoy basking in the sun and locals enjoy the freshest seafood overlooking the ocean. Journey to Boulders Beach in False Bay where the endangered African ‘Jackass’ Penguin breeds on the surrounds in view of the people who live there. This is the northern-most land-based penguin colony in the world and an incredible opportunity to view these adorable flightless birds.

For those of an active outdoors persuasion, there are multiple hikes up and around Table Mountain and the world-famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, and for those less keen on the vertical effort but equally excited for the view from the top, take the cable car up or down for an unmatched view of the city bowl and views that extend to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.

When to Visit

Unlike the rest of South Africa, Cape Town has a Mediterranean climate with winter rains from June through August where rains come in the form of cold fronts that sweep up from the Antarctic - weather that gave rise to its historical name as the ‘Cape of Storms’. Shoulder seasons of April through May and September through October can be changeable but are largely dry and the daytime temperatures begin to rise into the 20s (ºC). Days can be truly, stunningly beautiful. From November through March the weather is hot and dry and the beaches are full (though remember the water is colder than expected) but after a hot day in the sun, very refreshing! The wind can blow pretty strong however, particular through the heat of summer as warm air over the ocean comes in from the southeast creating the famed ‘table cloth’ over Table Mountain.
