Fire and Eyes

We spent an incredible afternoon with this young leopard, Jaziri, and his mother Nalangu in the Mara North Conservancy in Kenya.

This young boy was eventually left to his own devices while his mum enjoyed a well-earned rest from his exuberance and decided to stalk every warthog he could see, mistakenly certain in his abilities. He spent the late evening moving from bush to bush checking all the burrows before he spotted two adults walking casually back towards theirs.

Anticipating what he was going to do, we positioned so that the wonderful orange and purple sky was behind him, and, lying on the floor of the vehicle I was able to get a really lovely low angle view as he stalked purposefully towards his quarry.

This image, with his blue eyes up and focused and paw just slightly blurred as it moves deliberately forward, is one of my all-time favourite images where everything lined up perfectly. Thank you, Jaziri.

Each print is developed on the Fuji Crystal Professional Archive Maxima photo paper. The backing is 3 mm (1/8 in.) thick aluminium dibond - a composite material with three layers, Dibond ensures maximum stability but weighs very little.

Each mount comes standard with an aluminium rail rectangle around all edges for ease of hanging.
